Far Ings 1-6-11

With a early start today for Mandy and myself for a Breeding Bird Survey and a Bittern Survey at the same time.
So we arrived at Ness Farm before any public were out and about with it being half term to get the surveys done  so we could spent some time on the reserve for photography and birding for ourselves.
Birds of note
Marsh Harrier M/F doing food passes
Sparrowhawk M/F together
Bittern
Turtle Dove
Cuckoo
Treecreeper with young on Reedy Hide
Avocet
Shelduck
Gadwall
Pochard
Little Gull 2imm
Common Tern

We also witnessed what we believed to be a Marsh Harrier take a Avocet chick as it was carrying something and being hassled by the Avocets around the nesting site.
